HDFC Bank of Sri Lanka has officially launched its latest green financing solution, HDFC Green Leasing, alongside a nationwide tree planting initiative held in line with the auspicious timing of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year at 9:01 a.m. on 23 April.

Marking a symbolic and unified beginning, all 39 branches of the bank conducted tree planting ceremonies simultaneously across the island, representing a collective commitment towards a greener and more sustainable future.

This coordinated effort resulted in the planting of 500 trees across Sri Lanka, achieved through strong collaboration with Pradeshiya Sabhas, Urban Councils, AGA offices, hospitals, schools, preschools, and other government and community institutions. The initiative also witnessed active participation from various stakeholders, demonstrating a shared responsibility towards environmental conservation.

The project primarily focused on planting Jackfruit and Pomegranate trees, with a key objective of enhancing food security by providing sustainable and nutritious food sources for local communities.

Beyond the planting activity, the initiative emphasised environmental awareness and education, particularly among the younger generation, highlighting the importance of individual and collective responsibility in protecting the environment. This reflects the bank’s continued commitment to sustainable development and community engagement.

The event also marked the official introduction of HDFC Green Leasing, a dedicated financing solution designed to support:

Purchase of Electric Vehicles (EVs)

Funding for environmentally sustainable projects and green initiatives

This product further strengthens the bank’s role in promoting eco-friendly investments and reducing carbon footprints.

As a responsible financial institution, HDFC Bank of Sri Lanka remains committed to upholding Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles. By working closely with Government bodies, local authorities, and community organisations, the bank continues to drive initiatives that contribute to green growth, environmental protection, and long-term food security in Sri Lanka.
