Capital Alliance PLC yesterday said it has appointed Deshal de Mel as an Independent, Non-Executive Director effective 4 September.
de Mel is an economist with over two decades of experience spanning government, financial markets, the corporate sector, and think tanks. He currently serves as a consultant to the Asian Development Bank (Sri Lanka), World Bank Group (Sri Lanka), and Capital Alliance Group.
Notably, he played a pivotal role at the Ministry of Finance in the design and negotiation of Sri Lanka’s post-crisis IMF supported macroeconomic reform program, and debt restructuring from May 2022 to March 2025, the company said in a statement. Throughout his career, de Mel has held senior positions at several corporate and public institutions, including, Sampath Bank PLC, Janashakthi Insurance PLC, as an Independent Director, and the Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka as a Commissioner.
de Mel is an alumnus of the University of Oxford, where he earned a BA (Hons) in Philosophy, Political Science, and Economics. He also holds a Master of Science in International Political Economy from the London School of Economics and Political Science.
