AM/Dehiaththakandiya National School, Champions of the Capital Market Masters 2025 Quiz Competition

The grand finale of the Capital Market Masters’ Quiz 2025, organised by the Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka (SEC) and the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, was held on 21 August at the iconic trading floor of the CSE. AM/Dehiaththakandiya National School (Eastern Province) emerged as the overall champions, with Royal College (Western Province) securing first runner-up and Dharmasoka College (Southern Province) placed as second runner-up.

Following the launch of the 100 Capital Market Clubs in schools across Sri Lanka in 2023, the Capital Market Masters Quiz Competition, now in its second consecutive year, brought together some of the brightest students from across the island, offering them a platform to demonstrate their knowledge in areas such as global markets, the Sri Lankan economy and business, general knowledge, current affairs, as well as sports and entertainment. This initiative forms part of the ongoing effort to advance financial literacy among school students by promoting awareness of capital markets and broader economic concepts.

In his opening remarks, CSE CEO Rajeeva Bandaranaike congratulated the students on reaching the national competition, stating, “This achievement is a reflection of your hard work, curiosity, and perseverance. Each of you represent the best talent from your clusters, and your enthusiasm for learning is truly inspiring.” He continued, “Financial literacy is not merely an academic exercise; it is an essential life skill. Understanding financial concepts empowers you to make informed decisions, manage risks, and seize opportunities. It is a skill that will benefit not only yourselves but also support our nation’s economic growth.”

Commenting on the initiative, SEC Deputy Director General Tushara Jayaratne said: “We are working closely with the Ministry of Education and the National Institute of Education to integrate capital market content into the school curriculum from Grade 6 onwards, ensuring that every student has the opportunity to enhance their financial literacy.”
