Darshana Gunasekera appointed Non-Executive Director at BOC

Bank of Ceylon has announced the appointment of Darshana Gunasekera as an Independent, Non-Executive Director to the Board with effect from 13 August 2025.

Gunasekera is a seasoned corporate executive with over 25 years of cross-sector leadership experience. He currently serves as Group Finance Director of the MJF Group and an Executive Director of Dilmah Ceylon Tea Company PLC. He joined Dilmah in 2015 as Chief Financial Officer and was appointed to its Board in October 2020.

He has held board and C-suite roles across a broad spectrum of industries, including FMCG, tea and plantations, manufacturing, renewable energy, apparel, and financial services. His core expertise spans corporate finance, M&A, business transformation, investor relations, enterprise risk management, analytics and digital finance. He has led numerous strategic initiatives such as optimising capital structures, balance sheet restructuring, energy sustainability transitions, implementation of financial and governance frameworks, and other enterprise-level transformation programs.

Gunasekera is a Fellow of CIMA (UK) and ACCA (UK), a CGMA of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), holds a B.Sc. degree from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura and a Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing from CIM (UK). He also serves as a Director of Kahawatte Plantations PLC, Talawakelle Tea Estates PLC, and holds board positions in several private sector companies, both in Sri Lanka and internationally. 

Gunasekera also chairs the Integrity and Ethics Committee of the International Chamber of Commerce Sri Lanka (ICC SL), and serves on its Executive Committee on Policy Advocacy. He also plays a strategic role in shaping sustainability and ESG agendas across corporate and industry platforms, including advising purpose-driven start-ups on long-term value creation and responsible growth.
