The corporate leadership of Commercial Bank of Ceylon, led by Chairman Sharhan Muhseen, and Managing Director/CEO Sanath Manatunge, recently visited the Bank’s operations in Bangladesh and met with Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr Ahsan H. Mansur in Dhaka.
Discussions at the meeting centred on the nation’s financial stability and policy direction, the economic and regulatory environment, and ways in which Commercial Bank’s strategies can align with the objectives of Bangladesh Bank. The talks also covered enhancing the Bank’s contribution to the economy, expansion into new verticals, Sri Lanka’s accelerated economic recovery, evolving financial sector governance, and opportunities for greater cooperation between the two countries. The Bank also offered support and consultancy in Bangladesh’s transition to the IFRS reporting regime.
The meeting was also attended by CEO Najith Meewanage and Deputy CEO and Head of Corporate Banking of Commercial Bank’s Bangladesh operations Mahmud Hossain.
Commercial Bank entered Bangladesh in 2003 through the acquisition of Credit Agricole Indosuez’s operations — its first-ever overseas acquisition — and has since grown into one of the most respected foreign banks in the country, operating 20 outlets. The Bank’s Bangladesh operation was adjudged the Best Foreign Bank in Bangladesh, Most Sustainable Bank in Bangladesh, Best Corporate Bank in Bangladesh, Best Customer Service Provider Bank in Bangladesh and has won several other awards and accolades from prominent magazines and institutions located in business hubs such as the USA, UK, UAE, and Singapore. It has maintained the coveted ‘AAA’ Long Term credit rating from Credit Rating Information and Services Ltd. (CRISL) for 15 consecutive years.
