A defining milestone in Sri Lanka’s digital payments journey was celebrated at Cinnamon Life recently, as Commercial Bank of Ceylon marked the completion of 100,000 Google Pay transactions within just six weeks of launching the service in Sri Lanka for its Visa cardholders.
More than a numerical achievement, the milestone underscored the rapid adoption of secure, contactless mobile payments and the growing confidence of consumers in a cashless future, the bank said. The occasion symbolised a historic moment in which Commercial Bank, in partnership with Visa and Google, had pioneered the next evolution of digital payments in Sri Lanka, combining global connectivity, convenience and robust security in a single, seamless experience.
As the first bank in the country to collaborate with Google and Visa to enable Google Pay, Commercial Bank has delivered a world-class mobile payment solution trusted by millions worldwide, while giving the bank’s customers a decisive first-mover advantage. The landmark 100,000th transaction was completed by S. Uddeeptha Gajasinghe, who was invited to the celebration and presented with a commemorative plaque and gift vouchers to mark the occasion.
Together, this achievement reflects the successful integration of Google’s intuitive interface, Visa’s trusted global network and advanced tokenisation technology, and Commercial Bank’s robust digital banking ecosystem, signalling a bold and confident step forward in shaping the future of cashless payments in Sri Lanka, the bank said.
