Citi Sri Lanka reaffirms purpose and impact on Global Community Day 2025

Sri Lanka joined thousands of Citi colleagues across the globe to mark the 20th anniversary of Global Community Day – a milestone that reflects Citi’s two-decade commitment to service and social impact. This year, Citi Sri Lanka focused its volunteer efforts on the rural region of Waga in Avissawella, partnering with Sarvodaya Shramadana Movement to support economically challenged communities through a series of impactful activities.

Citi employees came together to volunteer their time and efforts in activities designed to address the communities’ urgent needs:

Community kitchen – Volunteers assisted in the preparation and distribution of meals feeding more than 400 residents within community.
Improving access to healthcare – A free health screening camp was organised for the community’s senior population, offering medical checkups, consultations and wellness advise.
Delivering essential supplies – Dry ration packs were distributed to over 100 families helping to ensure food security.
Enhancing educational access – Volunteers supported a local school by improving infrastructure and distributing essential school supplies to students encouraging an environment of learning and growth.

“These efforts reflect Citi’s commitment to making a positive impact – globally and locally,” said Citi Country Officer Sri Lanka Ravin Basnayake. “On this special 20th anniversary of Global Community Day, we are proud to stand alongside our colleagues worldwide, driving change in the communities that need it the most. The spirit of volunteerism and collective action was truly inspiring.”

Citi Sri Lanka’s collaboration with Sarvodaya Shramadana Movement helped ensure a smooth delivery of services and community engagement, reinforcing the value of strong local partnerships in achieving shared impact.
