CSE recovers to end on the up by 0.17%

The Colombo stock market recovered yesterday to close in green amid mild volatility. 

The ASPI ended 0.17% on the up, gaining 38.48 points to 22,333.25 and the active S&P SL20 gained 0.31% or 18.82 points to 6,071.12.

Turnover was over Rs. 2.85 billion on nearly 77.2 million shares traded and foreign investors were net sellers on a net outflow of Rs. 42.8 million.

According to First Capital Research the Bourse experienced an initial dip, followed by a session of mild volatility amidst consolidation, before ultimately closing above the previous day’s level. 

Top positive contributors to the ASPI were DOCK, COMB, SAMP, MELS and DFCC. Despite the overall upward movement in the market, 120 counters closed in negative territory. However, gains in key Banking sector counters drove the market higher. 

Both HNW and retail participation remained modest.

The Diversified Financials sector accounted for 23% of total turnover, while the Capital Goods and Food Beverage and Tobacco sectors contributed a combined 35%. 

NDB Securities said high net worth and institutional investor participation was noted in Lanka IOC, Colombo Dockyard and Laugfs Gas. Mixed interest was observed in Capital Alliance, Capital Alliance Holdings Ltd. and Renuka Agri Foods while retail interest was noted in UB Finance Company, Browns Investments and Hikkaduwa Beach Resort. 

Diversified Financials sector was the top contributor to the market turnover due to Capital Alliance and Capital Alliance Holdings Ltd., while the sector index edged up by 0.04%. 

The share price of Capital Alliance increased by Rs. 13.70 to close at Rs. 65.10. The share price of Capital Alliance Holdings Ltd. moved up by Rs. 1.40 to close at Rs. 17.20. 

The Capital Goods sector was the second highest contributor to the market turnover due to Colombo Dockyard while the sector index increased by 0.32%. 

The share price of Colombo Dockyard gained Rs. 10.25 to close at Rs. 202.25. Renuka Agri Foods and Lanka IOC were also included amongst the top turnover contributors. The share price of Renuka Agri Foods recorded a gain of 60 cents to close at Rs. 11.30. The share price of Lanka IOC appreciated by Rs. 2.50 to close at Rs. 128.75.
