CSE opens week on the up, extends gains into four sessions

The Colombo stock market yesterday opened the week in green extending the bullish run into four sessions.

With 124 counter gaining against 80 losing, the ASPI ended up 0.22% or 47.38 points at 21,417.47 while the active S&P SL20 index inched down 0.04% or 2.67 points at 5,985.49.

Market turnover was Rs. 3.8 billion on over 123.8 million shares traded. Foreign investors were net sellers on a net outflow of over Rs. 2.35 billion.

The main contributors to the ASPI gain were HNB.X, RCL, DIAL, PLR and MELS while HNB.N, CINS, HHL, AEL and JKH were the main negative contributors.

First Capital Research said the bourse closed higher on continued buying interest amid the ongoing quarterly earnings season. HNW individual and institutional participation remained moderate, while retail participation was slightly above average.

The retailing sector led the daily turnover with a share of 28%, followed by the telecommunication, and capital goods sectors collectively contributing 36%.
