The Colombo stock market yesterday ended a two-session recovery to end in red after rising global oil prices dampened investor sentiment.

The ASPI was down 0.09% or 18.26% at 21,066.89 with 115 counters closing in red against 91 in green; the active S&P SL20 was down 0.08% or 4.72 points at 5,942.78.

Turnover was over Rs. 1.3 billion on nearly 46.3 million shares traded. Foreigners were net sellers on a net outflow of Rs. 162.4 million.

The top contributors to the ASPI decline were DIAL, CINS, RICH, CIC and DIST.

First Capital Research said the bourse continued its upward trend during the first few hours of the trading session. However, rising oil prices weighed on investor sentiment in the latter half of the session, triggering selling pressure. Accordingly, the Colombo Bourse failed to sustain its two-day winning streak.

HNW investors accounted for the majority of the turnover, driven by a few on-board and off-board transactions. The materials sector led the daily turnover with a share of 19%, followed by the capital goods, and transportation sectors collectively contributing 37%.
