The Colombo stock market yesterday ended down, continuing from the previous session’s slide caused by heightened selling pressure amid growing concerns over tensions in the Middle East.

The ASPI ended down 0.35% or 76.23 points at 21,466 and the active S&P SL20 was down 0.34% or 20.65 points at 6,033.87.

Market turnover was over Rs. 972 million on more than 43 million shares traded and foreign investors were net sellers on a net outflow of Rs. 71. 3 million.

First Capital Research said the bourse remained subdued as investors largely stayed on the sidelines following the escalation in Middle East tensions and rising global oil prices. Investor sentiment was also affected by concerns over the potential impact of rising oil prices on interest rates, with investors adopting a wait-and-see approach during the session today.

Retail participation was extremely low, while HNW participation remained thin. The capital goods sector led the daily turnover with a share of 29%, followed by the diversified financials, and banking sectors collectively contributing 29%.
