The Colombo stock market overcame sharp volatility yesterday to close on the up for the fourth straight session.
The ASPI ended up 0.16% or 36.85 points to 22,459.28 and the active S&P SL20 gained 0.18% or 11.09 points to 6,095.15.
Market turnover was over Rs. 5.55 billion on nearly 170.9 million shares traded. Foreign investors were net sellers on a net outflow of Rs. 150.5 million.
The market gained Rs. 16.5 billion in value yesterday, taking the total gain to Rs. 306.4 billion this week, nearly 73% of the Rs. 424 billion in value wiped out last week.
First Capital Research said the Colombo Bourse climbed sharply at the open and traded steadily through the late morning before experiencing a session of profit taking before closing the day with a partial recovery.
Top contributors to the ASPI were DOCK, CINS, CFIN, HHL, and SUN. HNW participation remained low, yet retail investors showed significant interest.
The Capital Goods sector accounted for 31% of total turnover, while the Food Beverage & Tobacco and Energy sectors contributed a combined 30%.
