The Trade Finance Association of Banker’s Quiz and Social 2025 was held on 13 September at the Marino Beach Hotel, Colombo.
A total of 31 quiz teams representing various banks participated in the competition, setting the stage for an exciting contest of intellect and teamwork.
The quiz consisted of five thrilling rounds, where participants showcased their knowledge and quick thinking. To add excitement, the highest scorer of each round was rewarded with a special gift, keeping the competitive spirit alive throughout the evening. At the end of every round, the audience too had their chance to shine, with questions posed specially for them. Five lucky audience members walked away with gifts, making the event truly interactive and enjoyable for all.
A highlight of the quiz was the two Trade Rounds, designed to test specialised knowledge in the field. The participant with the highest combined score of these two rounds was awarded the prestigious ‘Parama Dharmawardhana Challenge Trophy.’ This was preserved by the Hatton National Bank Team B.
Hatton National Bank Team A secured the Championship and awarded with the ‘Seylan Bank Challenge Trophy,’ followed by Bank of Ceylon Team A as the First Runner-up, and Commercial Bank Team as the Second Runner-up.
The evening was attended by two distinguished personalities—Chief Guest, Sri Lanka Export Development Board Chairman/CEO Mangala Wijesinghe and Guest of Honour, Standard Chartered Bank Executive Director, Country Head of Cash Management,Trade Finance and Transaction Banking Roger Nortan.
Nortan emphasised the critical importance of digitalisation in today’s rapidly evolving financial and business landscape. He highlighted how data-driven decision-making is not just a competitive advantage but a necessity for institutions and Banks aiming to remain relevant and resilient in the digital age.
Weerasinghe shared insightful perspectives on the future direction of the country’s export sector. He discussed the emerging industries poised for growth and stressed the need for strategic focus on innovation, value addition, and sustainability. His speech inspired the audience to think beyond current paradigms and align efforts with global economic trends.
Following the quiz, the evening flowed into a dinner and fellowship. Attendees enjoyed a scrumptious meal, followed by raffle draws, live music, DJ beats, and energetic dancing.
