Abans Finance appoints Lakshman Gunasekara as new CEO

Abans Finance PLC has appointed Lakshman Gunasekara as it Chief Executive Officer with effect from 24 August 2026.

Gunasekara holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Wolverhampton and a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, specializing in Real Estate. His academic background has provided him with strong expertise in business administration, management, and industry-specific knowledge, enabling him to excel in leadership roles within Sri Lanka’s financial services sector.

With over 20 years of experience in the finance industry, Gunasekara has built a distinguished career marked by operational leadership and strategic management. He served as Assistant General Manager at Lanka Orix Leasing Company (LOLC) from 2007 to 2019, where he gained extensive expertise in credit management, customer-focused financial solutions, and organizational efficiency. His contributions at LOLC were instrumental in strengthening the company’s market presence and operational performance.

In September 2019, Gunasekara joined Abans Finance PLC as Head of Recoveries. In this role, he has been responsible for overseeing recoveries, operational improvements, and strategic initiatives that align with the company’s long-term vision. His leadership emphasizes risk management, stakeholder engagement, and sustainable growth, ensuring that Abans Finance remains competitive in Sri Lanka’s dynamic financial landscape.
