  • Keep third weekend in October free for two interactive and highly enjoyable performances

Power of Play Ltd.’s monthly interactive performances of classic tales from best beloved author and illustrator Sybil Wettasinghe are much anticipated by adults and children alike. This month, the company presents a double bill, as Sulochana Dissanayake and her team, perform two of Sybil Nenda’s stories, in different locations, during the same weekend. On Friday 17 October, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Cargills Bookcity, Majestic City, participants will help Ratu Menike save her village from a rampant beard, as they share in the award winning and well loved story – ‘Runaway Beard’! This classic tale will be performed primarily in English with brief translations in Sinhala. Then on Saturday 18 October, Expographic Bookstore in Pelawatte hosts ‘Poddai Poddi’, a heart-warming tale that celebrates the life changing power of both industry and teamwork. As always this performance will be primarily in Sinhala with brief translations in English, and will take place from 10-11 a.m. “This month’s double bill is in celebration of World Children’s Day, and the stories we have chosen both teach messages that are so important for our younger generations,” explained Sulochana, Power of Play’s Founder and Artistic Director. “Through these tales we emphasize the importance of goodness and morality, of hard work and team spirit; and of the love for, and appreciation of, the simple things in life.” An internationally-renowned children’s author, Sybil Wettasinghe has written and illustrated over 300 stories that have won her numerous national and international awards. “Sybil Nenda’s tales are truly inspirational and provide an ideal base from which our interactive and immersive readings can take flight,” said Sulochana. “Puppets, dialogue, music and movement are all part and parcel of the experience, the best part though is watching our audience enthusiastically get into the action and become characters and props within the story.” Entrance tickets at both venues are priced at Rs. 750 per participant. All participants require tickets, and parents are encouraged to accompany their children to make this a true family experience.
