A soulful celebration of Islamic spiritual traditions

The Muslim Choral Ensemble (MCE) will present An-Nur—The Light—a deeply moving presentation where sacred harmony, purposeful intent, and the timeless beauty of Islamic traditions converge in a profound musical encounter on Saturday, 1 June at 7:30 p.m. at the Lionel Wendt Theatre, Colombo.

More than a performance, An-Nur is a deeply immersive spiritual journey brought to life by voices united in their shared commitment, to honour centuries-old Islamic practices and present them through the transformative power of choral harmony.

Founded in 2016 and officially launched in 2017, the Muslim Choral Ensemble was established to provide a platform for Muslims to express their sacred heritage through vocal artistry. At its core, MCE remains devoted to preserving traditions practiced by Muslim communities around the world, traditions continually revisited and reimagined, without ever compromising their spiritual essence.

Each An-Nur performance features ancient Islamic compositions, qasida, zikr recitations, and a broad spectrum of sacred offerings. These elements converge in a space where faith is expressed through sound, harmonious, resonant, and deeply rooted in devotion.

MCE’s vision was born from a personal journey—a transition from the mainstream arts world to a life grounded in faith. What began as a solitary calling has blossomed into a vibrant collective mission: to create a space where like-minded individuals can connect, uplift, and inspire through sacred artistic expression.

Now approaching its tenth year, MCE stands as a symbol of both artistic integrity and spiritual depth. More than a performance ensemble, it is a part of a wider arts collective dedicated to nurturing unity across communities, cultures, and generations.

Each An-Nur event is a living testament to MCE’s progressive mission, to promote compassion, deepen understanding, and strengthen community ties through musical expressions inspired by Islamic values. Here, voices unite to honour a legacy of heritage, harmony, and hope.
