Marking a major milestone for sustainable energy supply for Industries, SLAM Power Solutions, in partnership with Ceyring Ltd., has officially commissioned Sri Lanka’s first industrial-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) integrating with solar power at the Ceyring factory in Horana.
The high-profile launching ceremony brought together key stakeholders from the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL), the Electricity Distribution Lanka (EDL), the National System Operator (NSO), the Board of Investment (BOI), and top industry and academic experts.
As Sri Lanka targets a 70% renewable energy infrastructure, this project introduces a scalable roadmap for industrial clean energy integration. The system features an advanced BSLBATT ESS-GRID C241 setup with a capacity of 125kW/241kWh, seamlessly integrated with an existing 100kW rooftop solar PV system. The facility is intelligently optimised for industrial peak shaving reducing energy demand charges during expensive night peak hours, grid-failure backup ensuring instant, automated backup power to eliminate production downtime with uninterrupted power supply and renewable maximisation smoothing out the intermittent nature of rooftop solar assets to preserve machinery lifespans.
“This installation proves that local manufacturing can achieve both energy independence and cost optimisation, while directly protecting national grid stability, and allowing industries to compete in local and international markets for their products without subjecting to rising Electricity and Fuel prices” said SLAM Power Solutions Managing Director Eng. Manoj Tharaka.
By creating absolute synergy between heavy industry and smart grid infrastructure, SLAM Power Solutions and Ceyring have set an influential precedent for sustainable corporate engineering across South Asia.
