E.B Creasy Solar, the renewable energy division of E.B Creasy & Co. PLC, one of Sri Lanka’s leading and longest-standing conglomerates, recently announced a landmark partnership with Agarapatana Plantations PLC.

Under this partnership, E.B. Creasy Solar will install rooftop solar power generation arrays, with a cumulative installed capacity of 1.38 MW, at 10 tea factories operated by Agarapatana Plantations. This will be a milestone project through which E.B. Creasy Solar will assist Agarapatana Plantations in harnessing the power of the sun to reduce its carbon footprint and minimise its reliance on electricity from the national grid.

The partnership was formalised with the signing of an MoU by the two parties, amidst a special ceremony to mark the occasion.

E.B. Creasy & Co. PLC Head of Renewable Energy Isuru Lekamge said: “It is our pleasure to partner with one of Sri Lanka’s largest plantation companies and support them to achieve their sustainability goals. We are one of the few publicly listed companies to provide solar power solutions in Sri Lanka and, accordingly, one of only a very small number of companies that have the expertise and longevity to not only competently install complex solar power generation systems, but also provide reliable maintenance and warranty support. We look forward to working together with Agarapatana Plantations on this project, together contributing to a more sustainable plantation industry and economy.”

Accordingly, solar power generation arrays will be installed at three separate tea factories in the Agra region, in the Nuwara Eliya Area. These factories include Balmoral (95.2kW), Hauteville (122.6kW), and Waverley (120.2kW). Meanwhile, seven separate factories will see installations in the Uva region. These factories include Haputale (204.7kW), Nayabadda (142.8kW), Dambatanne (233.2kW), Pitarathmale (149.9kW), Glenanore (109.5kW), Gonamotawa (104.7kW), and Kahagalla (103.5kW). These installations will utilise modules from AE Solar, while the inverters will be units from ABB -FIMER, both globally respected European brands in solar power generation systems.

This project is the latest large-scale project from E.B. Creasy & Co. PLC. Over the past 22 years, the company has also installed over 2.5 MW of solar on its buildings while having been behind many other key renewable energy projects, including for the UNDP, WORLD VISION LANKA, and IOM, and the ‘Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Development’ project, sponsored by the World Bank, which involved supplying and installing over 15,000 home energy systems.
