EDEX Mid-Year Expo 2016 opens 2,500 vacancies at job fair

The EDEX Mid-Year Expo and Job Fair will take stage on 3-4 September at the Sri Lanka Exhibition and Convention Centre (SLECC) Colombo. The expo, job fair, psychometric test counselling for all expo participants at specially designed EDEX Career Pavilion and Career Guidance seminars will be main attractions this year. EDEX Careers in partnership with Psychometric test Academy will facilitate the psychometric testing at the expo. The results of this unique test which is based on skills and personality will help career seekers identify the best occupation that suits them.

The other distinctive feature this year is the job fair which offers unprecedented opportunities to career seekers. There will be one-toone career counselling with over 175 local and international stalls by over 100 local and foreign universities and institutions from 12 countries, with daily career guidance seminars supplemented with full and partial scholarships, discounted offers and spot admissions. The most sought after series of career guidance seminars will be held on the themes of Sales and Marketing, Entrepreneurship, HR, Hospitality, Finance and Accountancy,

IT/Software Development and Law, conducted by the best practitioners and professionals in respective fields daily. The job fair will follow up with unprecedented 2,500 plus job vacancies in offer. Furthermore, the EDEX Mid-Year Expo and Job Fair unrolls this year at a no better time when the Government did emphasise as a policy the need to provide knowledge and competencies needed to overcome development gaps. Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe delivering the Economic Policy Statement in Parliament recently outlined, “We are caught in a development gap because we do not have competent people. We must therefore take action to provide knowledge and competencies needed.

“This year’s Mid-Year Expo sets the ideal platform to open avenues to acquire the knowledge and competencies thus envisioned by the premier. With the vision of EDEX towards ‘empowering Sri Lankan Youth to be globally competitive’ EDEX Mid-Year Expo and Job fair aims to provide a platform for the human resource development and employment generation as envisioned in Economic Policy Statement of the Government. EDEX, a multi-stake holder ‘Social Responsibility’ initiative facilitated by the Royal College Union – the alumni of Royal College, Colombo, was launched in 2004 as Sri Lanka’s pioneering and largest educational expo. Over the years, EDEX has brought in a multitude of value added initiatives, which offer connectivity and placements in the process of school to work transition. EDEX Mid-Year Expo Job fair has now become the much sought after event by students, parents, educational institutes because it is held at a crucial time, immediately after the conclusion of the Advanced Level examinations and the business fraternity of Sri Lanka who are very keen in finding skilled employees for their business sector with excellent

psychometric standards. The EDEX Mid-Year Expo and Job is organised by the leader in the tertiary education and careers exhibition sector in Sri Lanka endorsed by the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Higher Education and Research, State Ministry of Youth Affairs, Ministry of Labour and the Ministry of Skills Development and Vocational Training.
