Wisdom Plus launches online education assistance program

Wisdom Plus (www.wisdomplus.org) is a voluntary community development organisation formed to empower communities in Sri Lanka to ameliorate vulnerabilities and become successful through ‘transformational literacy’. Hence, its motto is ‘Freedom through Wisdom’.

A group of critically-thinking, forward-looking Sri Lankan professionals from diverse knowledge, expertise and experiences, residing in Sri Lanka and overseas have decided to come together voluntarily, to facilitate positive and sustainable changes in the lives of people of Sri Lanka. 

Its mission, therefore, is to support and provide sustainable programs that are geared to facilitate a learning environment for children, young people and communities at large, towards contributing to a broader outcome to elevate their ‘transformational literacy’ that promotes intellectual capacity, resilience, and encourage communities to unite, foster creativity, to overcome obstacles, and inspire lifelong learning through wisdom!

As part of its education in emergency program, Wisdom Plus started an online assistance scheme to support students in the pandemic period, by providing them with a free zoom recharge facility for a limited period of time. The program will primarily cover the remote areas in the country. Wisdom Plus believes this assistance will support students to continue their education with least disruption during the pandemic. 

Earlier in the year, transforming their vision to action, on the International Mother Language Day 2021, Wisdom Plus launched street libraries in 15 rural communities in Sri Lanka where such facilities did not exist. Street libraries would be the hubs of our community empowerment programme. A set of activities have been implemented to involve children, youth and adults to discuss, analyse and come to community-based solutions to problems such as learning, alleviating poverty, conservation of environment, national harmony, social justice and other day-to-day challenges. 

Wisdom Plus believes that it is wisdom that can guide children and youth to broaden their horizons, through the promotion of reading, acquiring new knowledge, literacy skills. Further, it is through wisdom that we can promote rich and engaging intergenerational dialogue between children, youth and elder generation, which is seemingly missing from our societies over a long period of time.
