  • La Trobe University degree pathway now in Sri Lanka at Horizon Campus

Horizon Campus, renowned non-State higher education institution in Sri Lanka, having recently partnered with La Trobe University, one of Australia’s prestigious universities, is as a part of this collaboration, offering students in Sri Lanka exceptional degree pathway programs in Business, IT, and Engineering. 

This presents exciting opportunities for students who want to earn an Australian degree qualification while studying locally, without the need to leave their home country.

Students can now start a one-year diploma program in Sri Lanka, commencing in August 2023 and upon successful completion of the diploma program, have the opportunity to enrol at La Trobe University in Australia, with a guaranteed pathway to complete their degree, provided they meet the necessary academic requirements.

The Diploma of Business offers pathways to nine specialisations, including Digital Business, Enterprise, Event Management, Finance, Human Resource Management, International Business, Management, Marketing, and Tourism and Hospitality. Students in this program can also pursue a Bachelor of Accounting or Bachelor of Business Analytics degree through the Diploma in Business pathway.

For students interested in Engineering, the Diploma of Engineering provides a pathway to a Bachelor of Civil Engineering (Hons) or Bachelor of Industrial Engineering (Hons). The program provides a comprehensive understanding of foundational concepts in mathematics, physics, and programming, where students will learn to apply these concepts to tackle engineering problems and implement creative solutions. Upon completion of the Diploma, students can apply for advanced standing to enter La Trobe’s Bachelor of Civil Engineering (Honours) or Bachelor of Engineering Honours (Industrial. With the program’s focus on hands-on learning and practical experience, students will be well-prepared to start a successful career in engineering.

The Diploma of Information Technology offers a pathway to a Bachelor of Information Technology with specialisations in Software Engineering, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, or Network Engineering. Offering a comprehensive curriculum in core IT subjects, upon completing, students could receive up to one year’s worth of course credit, known as advanced standing, which can be used to directly transfer into the second year of their chosen IT degree program. 

To be eligible for the diploma programs, students must meet certain entry requirements that include having Edexcel/Pearson/Cambridge / A Levels with three E passes or Edexcel/Pearson/Cambridge/AS Levels with three B passes, or Sri Lankan A levels with three S Passes. 

Alternatively, students can have GCE O/L plus Pearson BTECH Level 3 Diploma or GCE O/L plus Pearson HNC Certificate in Business/IT/Engineering. Additionally, all students must have a minimum B pass in English at GCE O/L OR IELTS 6.0. Meeting these requirements will ensure that students are able to enrol in the diploma programs and begin their journey towards obtaining an Australian degree qualification.

Students who enrol in the diploma programs in Sri Lanka will receive their letter of acceptance from La Trobe University from the first year, making their transfer to Australia from the second year seamless. Students may also be eligible for scholarships ranging from 20% up to 100% depending on their qualifications and extra-curricular activities undertaken at the school level.
