  • Strengthens presence in Sri Lanka, reflecting a strong shift towards international curricula

The International Education group at Cambridge University Press & Assessment (Cambridge) recently announced that it has surpassed 1,000 Cambridge International Schools across South Asia, marking a significant milestone in its commitment to delivering world-class education in the region. This achievement underscores Cambridge’s growing influence on education in South Asia, with Sri Lanka emerging as a key hub for Cambridge schools.

To support the evolving aspirations of parents and students in Sri Lanka, Cambridge has invested in local talent and established a dedicated country team. The team is able to engage directly with schools and provide tailored support that empowers local educators to deliver world-class teaching and learning experiences.

The growth of Cambridge in South Asia reflects a global shift towards international education, with a record number of learners taking Cambridge exams in 2024 than in any previous year.

Responding to requests from its community of schools in the region, Cambridge will introduce a third Cambridge Checkpoint test series in March 2026, providing schools with greater flexibility to schedule assessments in line with their academic calendars.

With Cambridge, students can choose from more than 50 different subjects for Advanced Subsidiary (AS) and Advanced Level (A Level) and more than 70 subjects for Cambridge International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE). This provides huge flexibility and choice for students to choose what suits them best while aligning with the changing requirements of Sri Lanka’s education system.

From ages 3 to 19, the Cambridge Pathway is designed to hone analytical thinking and independent research skills, and to develop communication and leadership skills. Cambridge has embedded climate change education across its curricula, and the ethical use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into learning. Together with deep subject knowledge, it’s these skills that help students thrive in the real world.

International Education in South Asia Senior Vice President Vinay Sharma said: “Crossing the 1,000 schools mark in South Asia is a testament to our unwavering commitment to providing world-class education that empowers learners and educators alike. In Sri Lanka, we are proud to partner with schools to meet the rising demand for global curricula and help shape the next generation of future-ready learners. Our programs go beyond academic achievement—they equip learners with the skills, mindset, and confidence to navigate global challenges, from climate change to the rise of AI.”

Country Head – Sri Lanka and the Maldives Zahara Ansary said: “Sri Lanka is home to a vibrant and fast-evolving education community, and we are proud to collaborate closely with schools across the country to support learner aspirations. With a dedicated team on the ground, we are able to offer personalised guidance and services that ensure Cambridge learners in Sri Lanka benefit from a high-quality, future-ready education—one that is aligned with both local priorities and global standards.”
