Bank of Ceylon (BOC) has been celebrating the finest academic achievers in Sri Lanka’s State universities through its signature initiative, the ‘BOC Awards’ since 2020. The main objective of this program is to recognise the most outstanding performers at university convocations. It further aims to inspire excellence in future graduates, strengthen the bond between the Bank and the young academia, which further reinforce BOC’s image as a trusted partner in shaping Sri Lanka’s future.

Under this initiative, BOC partners universities to honour graduates who have demonstrated exceptional academic performance. Selection is entirely managed by the respective universities, typically identifying the Batch’s top performer or recognising outstanding achievers from different faculties. This ensures that the awards reflect the highest academic standards without external influence.

At each convocation, the winning graduates are presented a Gold medal as decided by the University, a symbolic yet lasting token of their achievement. The awards are presented at particular University Convocations, in the presence of academic staff, fellow graduates, dignitaries, and representatives from BOC, ensuring the moment receives due recognition. At present, this program is active in eight state universities, which is a key highlight of the initiative.

The program launched with state universities has steadily grown. BOC is currently in progress to expanded and include University Grants Commission (UGC) approved private and semi-government institutions as well.

BOC Deputy General Manager (Branch Operations) Priyal Silva said: “Bank of Ceylon is committed to supporting and empowering young academia through various programs. They are the next generation, ready to shape the future of Sri Lanka. The ‘BOC Awards’ is one such program that rewards top-tier university graduates. We believe that, it helps us build a long lasting relationship with them while recognising their excellence. BOC also express the hope that this recognition, will empower young graduates to carry Sri Lanka’s pride onto the global stage.”
