BCI Campus can play a critical, pivotal role in creating hope for the future, Professor in Management, Professor Ajantha Dharmasiri said delivering the keynote speech at the inauguration of the Academic Year 2022 & Seventh Anniversary of Pope Francis’ visit to BCI Campus held recently at The Benedict XVI Catholic Institute of Higher Education (BCI Campus), Negombo.

The inauguration was graced by Apostolic Nuncio to Sri Lanka Most. Rev. Dr. Brian Udaigwe. Delivering the keynote speech on “Graduating for the world of work and for fulfilled life” the renowned conference speaker, corporate trainer, strategy consultant, author and Professor in Management, Professor Dharmasiri said creating the future of the country should have a holistic approach.

“Future would look like a holistic future not just blindly going behind money, leaving principles behind and go in search of privileges. But it should have the holistic approach, having the humane approach, and having the humble approach – the three Hs that we need as human beings. It is said to note sometimes we become overly ego centric and the time has come for us to shift from being ego-centric to eco-conscious,” he said.

Prof. Dharmasiri also highlighted the importance of being aware of the “new normal” with its associated problems and prospects amidst a planetary pandemic. He referred the reality of VUCA 1.0 (volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity) and the required response of VUCA 2.0 (vision, understanding, confidence and agility). The required shift from being “ego-centric” to “eco-conscious” where a holistic approach towards a total wellbeing was emphasised as an essential ingredient for a fulfilled life.

He further highlighted the need to have physical fitness, mental sharpness, emotional maturity, and spiritual richness which are four key components of a “peak performance pyramid”. The need to have right competence and confidence in contributing to socio-economic upliftment of the country was emphasised.
