Dharshan Munidasa has done it again, topping the rankings of the Miele Guide 2013 by taking the highly-coveted first and second place in Sri Lanka for the outstanding cuisine at his very popular restaurants, the Ministry of Crab and Nihonbashi.

“This is a great moment for our restaurants,” said Dharshan, “especially since this is the first time that Sri Lankan restaurants have ever been ranked. I am absolutely delighted that we have managed to secure the top two spots in this prestigious publication,” which recognises the best restaurants in the world every year.

This is not the first time that Dharshan has received international recognition for his brilliant and inventive gastronomy. In fact for the past three years the Miele Guide has recognised Nihonbashi for its outstanding cuisine and has referred to it as one of ‘the must visit places’ in Sri Lanka.

Although barely a year in operation, the Ministry of Crab secured the top place in the ranking.

“Mahela, Dharshan and I are thrilled that in its first year of business we have managed to secure the number one spot in this year’s Miele Guide,” said Kumara Sangakkara, well known cricket personality and co-owner of Ministry of Crab. “It’s a huge achievement, especially with such a new and innovative concept for restaurants in Sri Lanka.”

What makes the Ministry of Crab even more special is the little known but wonderful ethos that they follow with their food and how they manage their restaurant. For instance, all the crabs and seafood are brought in fresh everyday; furthermore, none of the food that is served has ever been frozen.

“We always say that the only reason that we have freezers is to store our food refuse for disposal,” jokes Mahela Jayewardene, former Cricket Captain and co-owner of Ministry of Crab.

“We are so very proud to represent Sri Lankan gastronomy in this manner and we hope to take our unique style of restaurants global. We want to showcase to the world that Sri Lankan cuisine especially our amazing array of sea food is a gastronome’s delight,” said Munidasa.
