Swadeshi Industrial Works PLC, the market leader in Sri Lanka for herbal personal care products, has sponsored the ‘Aloka Poojawa’ of the historic Sabaragamuwa Maha Saman Devalaya for the ninth consecutive year
The event took place from 19 to 22 September this year. Chairperson of Swadeshi Amari Wijewardene said that the company was honoured to have supported this event for almost a decade for the benefit of all worshippers.
She said that the perahera of the Saman Devalaya was done on a grand scale this year and that the illumination of the devalaya was admired by many worshipers.
Situated in the Ratnapura District, the Sabaragamuwa Maha Saman Devalaya was built in the 13th century in the reign of King Parakramabahu II. The existing structure was built in the reign of King Rajasinghe II in the 17th century. It was the repository for the Sacred Tooth Relic from 1581 to 1592.
As part of its annual CSR programme, Swadeshi supports the ‘Aloka Poojas’ of all the temples that honour the four guardian Gods of Sri Lanka – the Kelaniya Raja Maha Viharaya (God Vibishana), Ruhunu Kataragama Maha Devalaya (God Kataragama), Saman Devalaya Ratnapura (God Saman) and Devundara Uthpalawarna Sri Vishnu Maha Devalaya (God Uthpalawarna Sri Vishnu) and also the Dambadeniya Raja Maha Viharaya.
