Cargills (Ceylon) PLC (member of CT Holdings PLC) along with Magic Sri Lanka’s No 1 dairy ice cream, Kotmale the country’s leading dairy brand, Kist Sri Lanka’s favourite Jams, Nectars and Sauces as well as the newly launched Kist Biscuits partnered the Galle Children’s Festival 2012 held 11-14 October in the historic Galle Fort.

Held for the second time, the Galle Children’s Festival was an extension from the internationally acclaimed Galle Literary Festival opening a plethora of aesthetic and cultural activities for the children of Sri Lanka absolutely free of charge.

The Festival included a diverse range of performances, exhibitions, workshops, activities, field trips and parades held over 4 days. This year’s programme was expanded to include a family friendly opening night, devoted day for schools, a day of workshops and performances for the local community plus a day of exciting field trips and adventures!

Releasing energy and inspiration with Magic Ice Cream

Teresa Santos, Brand Manager, Magic commenting on the involvement of the brand in this festival said: “We also supported the Galle Lit Festival 2012 by coming forward to make possible its outreach activities that focused on the development of children and their educators. We had a wonderful and overwhelming response from the children of Jaffna and Galle as well as their teachers. We therefore decided to extend this opportunity to a larger number of children by partnering the Galle Children’s Festival as its Gold Sponsor along with other brands under Cargills (Ceylon) PLC.”

“Magic shares the Festival’s energy of releasing excitement and inspiration on a platform of nutrition and quality and this makes our association with the Festival that much more meaningful,” Santos added

Kotmale Fresh Milk unleashes potential

Thamal De Silva, Senior Brand Manager, Kotmale commenting on the brand’s engagement with the Festival said: “Through this Festival the children of Sri Lanka explored the exciting world of aesthetics, culture and play. It is these experiences that shape personalities and releases the latent spirit of creativity and genius in children. Fresh Milk plays a major role in realizing the full physical and mental potentials of a child and we therefore share the Festival’s objective of releasing excitement and inspiration on a platform of nutrition and quality. This is why Kotmale is very closely engaged with programmes to facilitate the nutrition of children across Sri Lanka.”

Fun-filled food adventures with Kist Jam

Achini Wijekone, Brand Manager, Kist said that kids got the opportunity to enjoy a collection of culinary aesthetics with their favourite Kist Jam at the festival. The Schools programme took the children to a real kitchen under the supervision of the charity ‘Children’s Hope’ where they baked cupcakes filled and decorated with Kist jams. The Jamming with Jam activity showed kids between 6 and 9 years exactly how much fun they could have with nutritious and natural jams.  A more advanced cookery activity for 14 to 16 years olds also involved the goodness of Kist.

Wijekone noted that the Kist Jam range has a wide selection of natural flavours and tastes including the unique two-fruit jam, all fortified with Vitamins A and D.  She said: “We often never use jam for anything other than a sandwich. But there is so much more you can do with the Kist range because of their natural fruity great taste. It can be a topping, a filling or a décor going into a range of food from a quick pancake to a cake or a pastry. The exciting activities at the Galle Children’s Festival unveiled the aesthetic and culinary appeal of Kist Jams to kids showing them how much fun and learning they can get out of food.”

Kist Biscuits: Energising creative potential

Yahya Galely Senior Brand Manager, Kist Biscuits commenting on the brand’s engagement with the Festival said: “The Galle Children’s Festival is a fantastic opportunity for children across Sri Lanka to set their creative energies free. It is art and culture that builds personality and distinction in character and the children of Sri Lanka don’t really get the time or opportunity to nurture this aspect of their development due to time constraints and various pressures. KIST BISCUITS is therefore delighted to support these efforts and are energizing the thousands of kids to unleash their creative potential during four fun filled days.”  ‘Magic’, ‘Kotmale’, ‘Kist’ and Kist Biscuits’ also energized the event with free goodies for all participants. The Galle Children’s Festival is also supported by One Trust Sri Lanka, the philanthropic arm of Cargills that focuses on the empowerment of children through the promotion and facilitation of education, aesthetics and play.
