As a result the hospital had great difficulty accessing the record of the child’s history, a possibly critical problem when treating them for any subsequent serious illness. Also important maybe that parents would miss out on, or delay their children’s immunisation dates and follow up appointments due to the loss of their record sheet.
“When this need in the Batticaloa Teaching Hospital was brought to our attention we felt that it was an ideal cause for us to champion for the people of Batticaloa,” continued Nadarasa. “This innovative patient management system will allow for doctors to have a back up record of their
patients full history within the hospital database; this means that even if patients lose their records, the doctors can easily access a full copy at the touch of a button.”
In addition patients will receive reminders via SMS alerting them to their next doctors’ appointment and immunisation schedule, ensuring better health and safety for all the children who come to the hospital for treatment, and peace of mind for parents and doctors alike.
The pilot of the patient management system was launched in Batticaloa in collaboration with the Sri Lanka College of Paediatricians, in accordance with college policy. Dr. Karunakaran – Act. Dean, Faculty of Medicine, Dr. Grace Ananda – Acting Director, Teaching Hospital, Batticaloa, Dr. Angela Arulpragasam – Head, University Paediatric Unit, and Ramzeena Morseth Lye – Head of Sales and Marketing, Hutchison Telecommunications Lanka, attended the event.
