Hejaaz International School holds annual prize giving

The annual prize giving of Hejaaz International School ‘Celebration of Excellence’ was held at the Bishop’s College Auditorium recently. Sri Lanka Medical Council Ex President Dr. B.J.C. Perera was the Chief Guest. Dr. Perera praised the school for the wide range of activities provided to its students. Listening to the school reports he said that he was impressed by the students’ achievement of 100% passes in mathematics at the G. C. E. (O/L) in comparison to the poor results countrywide in the subject. Principal Zarina Mohideen Hizbullah in her report said that the skills needed by today’s children were far different from what were needed just a few years ago. The headmistresses of the boys’ and girls’ sections Ameena Abdul Malik and Hasna Iflal read out reports of the academic and sports achievements amidst applause. Special mention was made of Ashiq Ahmed who obtained 9As. The headmistresses highlighted the success of the students at the Australian Chemistry examination at which six students obtained high distinctions. Iflal said that the entire school community was looking forward to the opening of the multistorey building for the girls in a few months. The most prestigious award ‘Hejaazite of the Year’ for the student who has been loyal, dedicated and disciplined throughout his school career was won by Abdullah Ibrahim. Three members of the non tutorial staff were felicitated for ten years of service.
