Ceylinco Life makes 60th donation of classroom building

Ceylinco Life’s community initiative to support education in under-served towns and villages across Sri Lanka reached another milestone recently with the donation of a classroom to Assennawatta Kanishta Vidyalaya Divulapitiya, taking the total number of schools assisted under the program to 60.                               The school, which accommodates 105 students, was the fourth to receive a classroom building from the life insurance leader this year. The Higgaswatta Primary School, Kuruwita which accommodates 1,167 students, and was another of the four schools benefited this year, received a classroom designed for students with special needs. The school has 34 teachers for classes up to Grade 10. Other recipient schools  in this latest phase of Ceylinco Life’s infrastructure development project were the Boragas Sri Pragnasena Maha Vidyalaya, Nuwara Eliya (460 students), and Dodamgaslanda Royal College, Rideegama (570 students). “Our country-wide branch network helps us to identify the schools most in need of support and ensure that construction meets the required standards and is completed in time,” Ceylinco Life’s Managing Director and CEO R. Renganathan said. “The company has been donating classrooms for 10 years now and will continue this project in support of the educational needs of rural students.” Commencing with a classroom built for the Tissa Primary School in Lunugamvehera in 2004, Ceylinco Life’s schools infrastructure project has traversed the length and breadth of Sri Lanka, assisting schools in diverse locations such as Jaffna, Vavuniya, Trincomalee, Batticaloa, Sittandy, Mollipatana Ayithyamalai, Embilipitiya, Nivitigala, Beligala, Avissawella, Deniyaya, Kamburupitiya, Bandarawela, Haputale, Rambukkana, Kandy, Pilimatalawa, Madulkele, Rikillagaskada, Rajawella, Matale, Galgamuwa, Padaviya and Boraluwewa, Anuradhapura, Moneragala, Anamaduwa and Matugama. Ceylinco Life defines its Corporate Social Responsibility as ‘The continuing commitment of the company to create a sustainable business environment even in the remotest areas of the country through meaningful interventions in areas such as healthcare and education for needy people, while providing protection and financial security of the highest quality’. Besides contributing to the development of infrastructure in needy schools, the company also funds and coordinates a series of free medical camps across the country each year under its ‘Waidya Hamuwa’ (meet the doctor) program.
