The Sri Lanka Navy celebrated its 73rd anniversary, giving pride and place to social responsibility initiatives and religious programs.

In an extension of these efforts, the Navy organised blood donation drives from 1 to 28 December, spanning all Naval Commands.

These programs were held in the Eastern, Northern, North Central, North-western, Western, Southern and South-eastern Naval Commands, following the directives and guidance of the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera. The programs focused on replenishment of much needed blood stocks at the Blood Transfusion Centres in Trincomalee General Hospital, Vavuniya General Hospital, Batticaloa Teaching Hospital, Mullaitivu General Hospital, Jaffna Teaching Hospital, Thelippale Base Hospital, Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital, National Blood Transfusion Service Colombo, Karapitiya Teaching Hospital and Pottuvil Primary Hospital.

A large group of naval personnel attached to the Naval Commands voluntarily participated in these programs, by donating blood for a noble cause.
