Serendib Flour Mills (SFML), demonstrating a commitment to nourishing the nation’ and towards social responsibility, undertook two significant initiatives focused on children’s education and environmental awareness recently.

Serendib Flour Mills believes that education is the cornerstone of a brighter future and ensures programs also reflect a holistic approach to corporate social responsibility, supporting both educational needs and environmental awareness among the next generation.

The company completed its annual School Supply Initiative, providing essential educational materials to nearly 400 children of SFML employees for the 2025 school term. Simultaneously, SFML announced the launch of a World Water Day Art Competition for employees’ children, combining educational support with environmental consciousness.

During the school supply program, SFML distributed comprehensive educational packages including books, bags, and shoes to children of both direct and outsourced employees. Going beyond material support, the company believes that investing in education is equivalent to investing in the future of both the community and the nation.

The company believes that equipping these young minds with the tools they need to succeed, sets a pathway to supporting their academic journey and also reinforcing the commitment to nourishing the nation as a key player in the Sri Lankan food industry.

Complementing the educational support, SFML hosted an art competition in celebration of World Water Day 2025. The competition invited children of all SFML staff and outsourced employees to create artwork that explores themes of water conservation and sustainable water management.

The World Water Day Art Competition aimed to nurture creativity while raising awareness about critical environmental issues. The initiative aligned with the company’s broader sustainability goals and provided a platform for young talent to express their understanding of water conservation through artistic expression.

Winners of the art competition were announced at a special ceremony held on 26 March, with prizes awarded among different age categories. Selected artwork will be displayed at SFML facilities to inspire ongoing conversations about environmental stewardship.

Through these complementary initiatives, Serendib Flour Mills continues to demonstrate that commitment to ‘nourishing the nation’ extends beyond providing quality food products to nurturing the intellectual growth and environmental consciousness of future generations.
