People’s Leasing contributes to proper waste management at Sigiriya World Heritage site

People’s Leasing and Finance PLC has extended its contribution for the installation of the waste segregation bins in Sigiriya Rock Fortress in Dambulla on a need identified under the guidance of the Central Cultural Fund in collaboration with the Department of Archaeology in Dambulla, Dambulla Pradeshiya Sabha and MOH Office – Dambulla as one of their Environmental Conservation responsibility initiatives. 

The project was initiated in accordance with a concept by PLC CEO and General Manager Shamindra Marcelline. The primary objective of this initiative is to create a proper waste disposal system to preserve our country’s ancient world heritage sites as well as assisting in achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

The established waste bins with the awareness boards were handed over to the general public by Assistant Regional Manager Susil Priyantha, Central Cultural Fund in Dambulla Sigiriya Project Manager Upul Nishantha, Department of Archaeology in Dambulla Assistant Director Dhanuka Udayanaga, Secretary of Dambulla Pradeshiya Sabha Senevirathne, Dambulla Medical Officer Dr. Dayantha Weerasekara and Public Health Inspector, Dambulla Wasantha Kumara recently. PLC Manager – Marketing, Communication and Sustainability Hishan Welmilla and Dambulla Brand Manager Chathuranga Nagodavithana, Dambulla Pradeshiya Sabha’s A.I. Ahamed, Central Cultural Fund’s Sajith Wijesooriya and other representatives from PLC Dambulla Branch were also presented at this event.

Waste management involves the regular collection, transportation, processing, disposal or recycling and monitoring of different types of waste materials. Through proper management of the waste segregation, we can save a considerable amount of money and prevent the environment from being harmed.
