Kelani Cables PLC, the company that produces Sri Lanka’s number one brand of secure electrical and communication cables, enrolled 55 new students to its unmatched CSR program, ‘Kelani Saviya’ in 2023.

‘Kelani Saviya’, the award winning one-year electrical technicians’ training program, is done by Kelani Cables in association with the engineering faculty of the Peradeniya University since 2007.

‘Kelani Saviya’ is the one and only electrical technicians training program in Sri Lanka that endows participants with a University certificate on completion of the program. All costs pertaining to the program are incurred by Kelani Cables.

Kelani Saviya was commissioned in 2007 following signing of a MoU between Peradeniya University former Vice Chancellor Prof. S.B.S. Abeykoon and Kelani Cables former Managing Director Hemantha Perera.

According to the stipulated terms and conditions of the MoU, the CSR program was to end in 2012. However, Kelani Cables Director/CEO Mahinda Saranapala, knowing the immense benefits offered through the program for novices to acquire know-how and even find foreign employment, took steps to extend the program for a further period. Thus, the program was extended for a further period of five years till 2017.

‘Kelani Saviya’ then became a top-of-the-mind program of budding electrical technicians of the country and was extended three times from 2012 to 2017, 2017 to 2022 and 2022 to 2027.

Kelani Cables Director/CEO Mahinda Saranapala gracing the occasion of enrolling novices for the program said, ‘Kelani Saviya’ is only training program in the country which offers internationally recognised University certificates to the successful candidates.

He said Kelani Cables is proud to contribute towards this national level CSR program. He urged the participants to derive the utmost benefit from the program and brighten their professional future.

Peradeniya University Vice Chancellor Prof. M.D. Lamawansa said the ‘Kelani Saviya’ CSR program adds value to it every year which is significant.

Kelani Cables GM – Marketing Dr. Anil Munasinghe said: “Kelani Saviya is the most comprehensive program done by a Sri Lankan private sector company partnering with the Government sector. Being a student of this program hence is significant for a novice. The products of this program are fully-fledged electrical technicians with a university certificate. We pay our gratitude to the Peradeniya university for conducting this productive program.”

The program was also graced by Kelani Cables Marketing Manager Channa Jayasinghe, Electronics and Electrical Engineering Workshop Director Dr. Maheshi Dissanayake, Kelani Saviya Program Director Prabhath Binduhewa and Program Coordinator Jayantha Wijesinghe.
