Just In Time Resourcing and Consultancy Services Ltd. (JITRCS), recently donated prosthetic limbs to much deserving amputees through the Colombo Friend in Need Society - Jaipur Foot Program.

The Chosen amputees’ limbs are measured and the prosthetics are custom made to fit each amputee. Through this donation of prosthetic limbs, JITRCS aims to provide physical rehabilitation to these amputees by helping them regain their mobility and dignity to become self-respecting and productive members of society.

For these amputees, life will be transformed drastically as the professionally fitted prosthetics will boost feelings of self-worth, productivity and dignity; providing optimism for a brighter tomorrow. Now they can engage in a trade and earn a living to raise their standard of living which will benefit them greatly.

“I am currently living with my parents. I work as a supervisor at a garment factory. I lost my leg from a motorbike accident. I’m facing difficulties in travelling and doing my job. With this new prosthetic leg, I feel like I've been given a second chance at life. Now I can walk, run, and live my life to the fullest again,” said 27 year old Maduranga.

“I am 59 years old, living with my sister at Wattala. I lost both my legs from a train accident while heading back home from work. Receiving two prosthetic legs is life-changing for me. It will give me a sense of independence, freedom, and mobility that I thought I would never experience again,” another recipient Neville Mackey.

Sewwandi is only 16 years old from Narammala and this is a life transforming gift for her. “My favorite subject is Science and I plan on becoming a Doctor someday so that I could help others. I had been using a worn-out prosthetic leg for a while, and it had been hard for me to do simple things like walk, run, and play like the other kids my age. With this new leg I can walk and run and play with my friends, and I will not feel different or left out anymore. A new chapter of my life has started, and I am ready to make the most of it. Thank you so much for this gift,” said T.R.B.S.T. Sewwandi.

Colombo Friend In Need Society has been providing prosthetic limbs for individuals who have lost their limbs (both upper and lower) due to landmines, other explosives, road and train accidents, and illnesses such as cancer, diabetes, and vascular diseases. Over the years, society has helped thousands of people lead a normal life. But the need for prosthetic limbs is still high and many people are still unable to access them. The Jaipur Foot Program is designed to provide prosthetic limbs to those who cannot afford them, thus helping to improve the quality of life for individuals in Sri Lanka who suffer from physical disability.

“We are incredibly grateful to JITRCS for their generous donation.  Their kindness and willingness to support those in need is truly inspiring and is making a significant impact on the lives of individuals who may have otherwise struggled to access such life-changing equipment,” said Colombo Friend–In–Need Society Administrative Secretary Sarath Kumar.

Under this limb donation program of JITRCS, many amputees from different areas of the country will be benefited thus highlighting JITRCS’ objective of ‘Paying it Forward’ and serving the larger population through this program.

“At JITRCS, we believe in giving back to our community and making a positive impact in people's lives. It's heartwarming to know that we can make a difference in someone's mobility and quality of life,” said JITRCS Head of Business Development Tirantha Mahapatuna. “We hope that this gesture of kindness will inspire more people to get involved in supporting the Jaipur Foot Program and other similar projects, so that more people can benefit from the freedom that comes with mobility,” Mahaptuna added.
