Heritage Expediciones Ltd., has funded the installation of three tube wells for vulnerable families in Padaviya, North Central Province, demonstrating its commitment to meaningful community impact.

The initiative was coordinated on the ground by the Church of Our Lady of Perpetual Help and its Parish Priest, Fr. Sameera Fonseka, OMI of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate, a congregation defined by its identity as missionary men for the poor.

Recognising the urgent and compounding challenges facing Padaviya, where water scarcity threatens an agrarian economy built on paddy and chena farming, and chronic kidney disease has emerged as a serious public health concern, Heritage Expediciones committed the funds necessary to bring a sustainable and reachable solution directly to those most affected.

Fr. Sameera identified the beneficiary families and coordinated the effort from within the community he serves. His vision is clear: to quench the thirst of his people. It was his pastoral knowledge and the church’s deep-rooted trust within Padaviya that ensured the funds were directed precisely where they were needed most. When the Ditwah cyclone struck, the Church of Our Lady of Perpetual Help became a refuge for the entire village, a community that, regardless of faith, turned to it as a tree of life. That same spirit of solidarity made the church the natural partner for this initiative.

One well was installed at the St. Eugene de Mazenod Church in Kavantissa Pura. The remaining two were donated to vulnerable individual families personally recommended by Fr. Sameera, with cyclone victims among the primary beneficiaries.

For these families, the result is transformative. Access to a continuous water supply restores the ability to cultivate land, sustain livelihoods, and meet the most fundamental of human needs. Heritage Expediciones is proud to have made that possible, and to have done so alongside a partner as trusted and committed as Fr. Sameera and his community.
