In commemoration of its 35th anniversary, the Association of Professional Bankers (APB) embarked on a noteworthy Cor-porate Social Responsibility (CSR) project at Galpitiya Vidyalaya Meegalawa in Mahawa Educational Zone, demonstrating its commitment to community development and education.

The project identified a local school in the area that was facing a pressing issue – a lack of proper desks and chairs for its students, hindering their ability to study comfortably.

The initiative to support children’s education was met with enthusiasm and a sense of purpose by APB. Understanding the pivotal role education plays in shaping a brighter future, APB took action to address this pressing need. The provision of suitable furniture for the school was seen as a meaningful way to contribute to the academic environment, ensuring that students had a conducive space for learning and personal development.

The handing over of the furniture for the school took place on 25 July at a simple ceremony in the school with the participation of the principal, teachers, students, parents and the President and few Council members of the APB Sri Lanka.

Through their dedicated efforts, APB was able to facilitate the delivery of desks and chairs to the school, directly impacting the lives of numerous students. This act of generosity not only alleviated an immediate challenge faced by the school but also underlined APB’s commitment to making a positive difference in the communities they serve.

The project serves as a testament to the spirit of social responsibility within the banking industry, showcasing how organisations like APB can leverage their resources and expertise to bring about positive change at the grassroots level. By supporting educational initiatives, APB has contributed to the holistic development of the local community, emphasising the importance of accessible and quality education for all.

The CSR project undertaken by APB in Galpitiya Vidyalaya in Meegalawa, stands as an inspiring example of how financial institutions can go beyond their core functions to uplift communities. By addressing the pressing issue of inadequate school furniture, APB has not only transformed the physical environment of a local school but has also played a part in shaping a brighter future for the students who will benefit from these improvements. This endeavour underscores the significant impact that responsible corporate citizenship can have on society, particularly in the realm of education.
