University ragging: Tradition or trauma?

The traumatic practice of ragging in universities must be met with appropriate punishments. Period.
Equally pressing, however, is the question: Why do students resort to ragging? (An excellent topic for a degree thesis).
Such behavioural manifestations often have deep-seated social and psychological drivers.
After all, every student is born innocent—yet, in some way, conditioned or influenced by society.
Therefore, society bears a degree of responsibility for examining the root causes for such behaviours and finding preventive solutions.
