Brandix was recognised as Overall Winner in the Sustainable Construction & Built Environment and Sustainable Community & Social Development categories at the Sri Lankan Sustainability Awards 2026.The dual recognition reflects an approach that brings together infrastructure, technology, responsible resource use and social value. Its significance extends beyond the award itself, drawing attention to how environmental thinking is built into Brandix facilities and the everyday environments experienced by the people within them.

Beyond Certification

Brandix’s green building portfolio includes several internationally certified facilities. The Seeduwa facility is recognised as the world’s first LEED Platinum rated apparel manufacturing facility, while the Batticaloa facility also holds LEED Platinum certification. Koggala and Rathmalana are certified to LEED Gold standards.

These certifications establish a clear measure of environmental performance, but their value is also visible in how the buildings function. Natural light, indoor environmental quality, energy efficient lighting, low emission materials, water efficient fixtures and optimised ventilation systems all contribute to more considered working environments.

For the thousands of people who use these facilities, these choices become part of the day to day experience. This does not mean that employee wellbeing formed part of the award assessment. It shows how decisions made during design and operation can shape the quality and efficiency of the spaces people work in.

Smarter Facilities

Brandix’s Smart Factory transformation connects building performance with manufacturing operations through digital technology, automation and real time data.

At Rambukkana and Katunayake, production monitoring systems, machine level performance tracking and digital dashboards provide teams with greater visibility of performance. Predictive maintenance and automated alerts also support earlier intervention, helping reduce disruption and improve equipment reliability.

The same digital approach is applied to utilities. Energy, water and infrastructure monitoring systems provide facility level insight into consumption, allowing teams to identify inefficiencies and respond with greater precision.

This creates a model in which performance can be continuously measured and improved. Rather than remaining a feature of the original design, responsible resource management becomes part of how each facility is operated over time.

Cleaner Energy

Rooftop solar systems across Brandix facilities have a combined installed capacity of 18.8 MW. In FY 2024/25, renewable sources supported approximately 37 percent of the Group’s electricity requirements.

Digital monitoring allows teams to track generation and consumption, supporting better management of renewable energy investments. Combined with energy efficient design, this reduces reliance on conventional grid electricity and strengthens the connection between infrastructure and operational performance.

Water Stewardship

Brandix has also invested in reducing freshwater dependency and increasing water reuse. Sustainable water sources, including green and grey water, accounted for 29 percent of the Group’s water mix in FY 2024/25.

Initiatives include rainwater harvesting, wastewater recycling and upgrades to sewage and effluent treatment plants. A rainwater harvesting system at Rambukkana became operational during the year, while improvements to treatment infrastructure have expanded opportunities for recovery and reuse.

At Avissawella, an unused treatment plant is being converted into a rainwater harvesting and treatment system. Once operational, it is expected to add approximately 20 million litres of annual capacity.

A More Considered Everyday

Taken together, these initiatives show that sustainable construction is not defined by certification alone. Its wider value lies in how buildings perform, how resources are managed and how people experience the environments around them.

Brandix’s recognition across both categories reflects this broader perspective. Environmental responsibility, digital progress and social value are treated as connected parts of the same journey.
