John Keells Holdings PLC wins overall Gold at the CA Annual Report Awards 2021!

John Keells Holdings PLC and its subsidiary teams at the 56th Annual Report Awards Ceremony 2021

John Keells Holdings PLC (JKH) was pronounced the Gold award winner for Overall Excellence in Annual Financial Reporting at the 56th Annual Report Awards Ceremony 2021, organised by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka). JKH and its other listed subsidiaries were the recipients of ten awards at the ceremony; recognised in their respective sectors and sub-categories. 

In addition to the Gold award for Overall Excellence in Annual Financial Reporting, JKH was also the recipient of 5 Gold awards for the Diversified Sector (above 10 subsidiaries), Management Discussion & Analysis (MD&A), Integrated Reporting, Integrated Reporting: Best Disclosure on Business Model, and Integrated Reporting: Best Disclosure on Stakeholder Engagement, and a Silver award for Corporate Social Responsibility.

Its other listed subsidiaries, Ceylon Cold Stores PLC received a Gold award under the Food & Beverage Sector whilst Keells Food Products PLC and Union Assurance PLC were the recipients of the Silver award in the Food & Beverage Sector and in the Insurance Sector, respectively.

Gihan Cooray, Deputy Chairman and Group Finance Director of JKH, when addressing the gathering at the ceremony thanked the Group’s Finance and Accounting, Corporate Finance, Sustainability, CSR and other support teams, for their tireless efforts, dedication, hard work and passion despite the many unprecedented challenges encountered due to the pandemic. The teams ensured the timely completion of the report whilst continuously striving to deliver a balanced and relevant report, ensuring adequate disclosure and outlook on pandemic related aspects and also further improving visibility of ESG related reporting. He also recognised the contribution of the lead auditors, Ernst and Young, Chartered Accountants, and Emagewise (Private) Limited, along with all other partners, for their support and commitment. He also thanked all the internal teams including the finance teams for the continued commitment to achieve excellence in financial reporting and stated that the efforts of the teams from all the business units ensured JKH could win this accolade and that it is demonstrative of the ‘collective’ teamwork of JKH.

The Group has been pioneers and early adopters in many aspects of corporate transformation, whether it be adopting governance, sustainability or people related practices ahead of time. The Group serves a diverse constitution of groups and individuals; from customers and communities to shareholders, suppliers, partners and employees, where its actions impact many different lives in many different ways. The journey over the last couple of years has been challenging, to say the least, however, JKH has weathered this storm through its 'Resilience in Investing', setting itself a strong platform for growth.
