Sri Lankan Round Table Conference honours BASF Lanka

BASF Lanka received accolades at the second Sri Lankan Round Table conference on ‘Sustainable consumption and production’ recently. Honoured with a certificate for following practices laid done as per guidelines of Responsible Care, BASF also qualified for the right to use their authorised logo.

The event, organised by National Cleaner Production Centre in collaboration with UNIDO, DEG, UNEP, was an initiative aimed at promoting private and multinational corporations in Sri Lanka to adopt green practices.



Topics of discussion involved subjects promoting sustainable business practices initiatives that could help minimise environmental impact, ensure resource optimisation thereby, preventing climate change and promoting energy-efficiency.

Additionally, a workshop on handling chemicals responsibly was also organised. Participants ranged from members and representatives of various state-run universities, leading manufacturing industries, and Government representatives.

BASF Lanka was one of the six privileged organisations to receive a certificate, as recognition for its efforts in the area of Responsible Care at the said forum. BASF is the world’s leading chemical company; The Chemical Company. Its portfolio ranges from chemicals, plastics, performance products and crop protection products to oil and gas.

BASF have been associating with Sri Lanka for almost 75 years now. With 56 employees, an agrochemical processing unit and a state-of-the-art warehousing complex at Sapugaskanda, BASF registered sales of  20 million to customers in Sri Lanka in 2012. In Sri Lanka the company contributes to the local community with initiatives that support relief and rehabilitation efforts.
