Sri Lanka calls for Iranian investor partnership in country’s development projects

Tehran: Sri Lanka, seeking to promote industrial cooperation with Iran, has called for the partnership of Iranian investors in the development projects in the island. Sri Lankan Minister of Industry and Commerce Rishad Bathiudeen had made this call when he met with Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Morteza Sarmadi in Tehran on Wednesday. The Minister, who is on an official visit to Teheran, recalling the friendly and long lasting diplomatic relations between the two countries said Sri Lanka will benefit from the Iran’s technical and engineering experiences as well as the partnership of investors from different private and governmental sectors in the country’s development and infrastructural projects. The Iranian Deputy Minister called for the reinvigoration of mutual cooperation between Iran and Sri Lanka in regional and international bodies, including the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), in line with the two countries’ mutual interests, Iran’s Fars News Agency reported. “Holding regular meetings of the two countries’ joint economic cooperation commission provides a good opportunity for depicting the perspective of the expansion of all-out ties between the two countries and preparing a suitable roadmap for the implementation of the bilateral agreements for the further development of these ties,” the Deputy Minister said. Minister Bathiudeen also met with Iran’s Minister of Industry, Mines and Trade Mohammad Reza Nematzadeh today in Teheran. During the meeting, the two ministers agreed that activating Iran-Sri Lanka joint economic commission will lead to promotion of industrial and trade cooperation between the two countries. Bathiudeen expressed hope that the Joint Economic Commission would act like a bridge between the two countries to further strengthen the bilateral relations.
