Repeat training from the Netherlands for Leema creations

Leema Creations, the leading interior solution provider in Sri Lanka, has once again brought in foreign expertise to train its factory staff. On the invitation of Channa Wijesekara, Managing Director of Leema Creations, Dutch Specialist Consultant Hans Hartjes from the Netherlands successfully completed an extensive 14 day training stint at Leema’s manufacturing plant at Dompe. This is the second time the management is providing similar training for the staff. The program was made possible by PUM Netherlands Senior Experts, the technical assistance program by the Government of The Netherlands coordinated by Agr. Eng. S.P.C. Kumarasinghe, the Country Representative of PUM, Sri Lanka. Hartjes discussed the global technological changes and advancements, productivity enhancements, efficiency improvements in labour and machinery and future challenges of the Industry etc during the training session. The main focus of the program is to identify the importance of skills and competence of the technical staff of Leema. Wijesekara reiterated the importance of establishing new methods practiced in the West. “I have had my initial training in Germany and I was extremely fortunate to gain hands on experience in the European technology. Working with German experts were always hard but the experience acquired was the pillar of my success and the reason that Leema is what it is today.” Wijesekara is an incorporated civil engineer passed out from University of Moratuwa. He has written two books on ‘Basic Wood Technology’ in Sinhala and English, published by SMED, the umbrella organization of the Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry. Wijesekara became a qualified wood technologist after successfully completing a two year full time ‘Technical Teachers Certificate in Wood Technology’ in Germany. He also has completed the Diploma in Education Administration from Landau University in Germany. Subsequently, he was trained at Colombo Plan staff College and Dual Tech in Manila, Philipines on ‘Industry – Vocational Training Cooperation’ and also participated in basic and moderators programs in ‘Objective Oriented Project Planning’ in Thailand.
