MV Gelbray Express is a Singapore-flagged brand new vessel built in 2014 on its voyage from Freemantle, Australia to Eilat in Israel with a full cargo of 4,315 cattle.
Despite varied inquiries the port has had in the last four months in operation, the port has made a mark in the Silk Route as a favoured stopover for bunkers. The ancillary services too are picking up with crew changes, provision, stores and fresh water supply, technical services, etc., and the port expects to play a major role in the busy East-West shipping lane.
At present, Magam Ruhunupura Mahinda Rajapaksa Port (MRMRP) is functioning at its capacity and will increase storage by 100% within the next one year, coinciding with the opening of the second phase, which will have additional seven berths and a fully functional container port as well.
