Millers Brewery Limited (MBL), a subsidiary of Cargills (Ceylon) PLC (member of CT Holding) which took over the renowned McCallum Brewery with its popular ‘Three Coins’ and ‘Sando’ brands has commenced the transformation of its brewery located in Meegoda.

The second consignment of Brewery equipment for its Rs. 2 billion expansion drive arrived in Sri Lanka recently on a specially chartered vessel ‘HR Intonation’.

The upgrading of the facility would build its brewing capacity to meet the entire demand of the local beer market making it the only local brewery that brews its entire range in Sri Lanka.

MBL Project Manager Lalith Chandrasiri said this second consignment included the brew house equipment sourced from Europe. The brew House equipment was first dismantled at a site near the Colombo Port due to complexities that arose from the sheer size of the equipment.  The dismantled equipment was then transported to the Meegoda facility last week using two special trailers that were designed for the inland transportation of the shipment.

The first batch of equipment for the MBL capacity expansion project arrived in Sri Lanka in February this year. The equipment once fully commissioned would take MBL’s full capacity to 1,000,000 hl per annum with the ability to meet the growing demand for its range of local beers brewed since 1963.
