Lubricant scientist joins LAUGFS Lube

A veteran Sri Lankan scientist in the global petroleum industry Dr. Gamini Amarasekera, BSc. (first class), MRACI (Aus), and PhD (Aus) has joined LAUGFS Lubricants Limited as a consultant to improve its products and services under LAUGFS lubricant brand.

Dr. Amarasekera started his career in the petroleum industry with the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation in 1979 as a Deputy Technical Manager. In the year 1998 he joined the Technology section of the Caltex as Chief Technology Manager until 2010. During that period he was responsible for providing technical knowhow to the Asian regional market including Maldives, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. During 27 years of his carrier in the lubricant industry in Sri Lanka and abroad Dr. Ameresekere has earned his reputation in the field where he worked very closely with international manufacturing organisations, power generation plants, Government institutions and leading automotive companies in resolving problems and educating them on oils and their applications. Some of the key development initiatives that he had undertaken during his carrier include development of new generation oils for modern engines and advocating for environmentally friendly lubricants in automotive applications.

He also pioneered in taking the lubricant knowledge of the end users to a higher level through continuous education and made a significant contribution to set up regulatory framework to monitor the quality.

Whilst working in many international technical centres around the world he has gained expertise in product designing and manufacturing of cutting edge lubricants for modern applications. His working experience also  includes visiting of number of major oil and additive manufacturing plants in the UK (BP, Castrol,Lurizol), Italy (AGIP), Belgium (FAMM and BP), Holland (IMac), India, Dubai, Australia and Singapore (Oronite).  Dr. Amarasekera obtained his PhD in Chemistry from Swinburne University, Hawthorne, Australia and is also a member of the Royal Australian Chemical Society Specialised in Petroleum Chemistry in CICTI, Rome, Italy under UN development program. He also had published many research papers in prestigious international journals such as Journ`al of Physical Chemistry, Fuel, Carbon, etc.
