Furthering the commitment made towards occupational safety, Holcim Lanka has extended its support in providing technical consultancy for the National Safety Awards 2014, organised and implemented under the patronage of the Ministry of Labour and Labour Relations. Holcim Lanka, the local group company of multinational cement and aggregate solutions provider Holcim, has maintained a strong focus on safety in operations in alignment with its global vision. Canvassing under the statement, ‘safety is our license to lead’, Holcim Lanka has made strides in progressively establishing a culture of best practices within the organisation. Cement manufacturing is considered an industrial operation with a high risk of bodily harm to employees who are exposed to high risk working conditions on a daily basis. The importance of safety has been well pronounced within the industry, leading to the appointment of a dedicated safety team within Holcim Lanka itself. In operating two fully-fledged production facilities, Holcim Lanka has done exceedingly well in leading through example in the sphere of safety. The safety team recently celebrated the mammoth accomplishment of completing 3638 days without a lost-time incident at its Ruhunu Cement Works plant. The achievement alongside numerous international accolades awarded to Holcim Lanka has established the company among the top corporate entities promoting a culture of safety culture both within Sri Lanka and across the globe. In a bid to further spread awareness on the importance of safety in business, Holcim Lanka is assisting the National Safety Awards 2014 with technical expertise. The scope of areas which Holcim Lanka will be involved in ranges from preparation of application forms, development of a user guide for completion of application, development of desk review criteria, development of field verification criteria to the provision of technical guidance drawing from global experience derived from Holcim operations in over 70 countries worldwide. The safety team and management of Holcim Lanka stated that they are committed to ensuring the successful implementation of the National Safety Awards 2014 scheduled to be held in October.
