Govt. ups stamp duty

Stamp duty was increased yesterday for affidavits, insurance policies, warrants to act as Notary Public, business licenses, liquor licenses, and certain credit card transactions.

The increased rates published in Gazette Extraordinary No. 1789/9 will amend the order made under Section 3 of the Stamp Duty (Special Provisions) Act No. 12 of 2006 and published in the Gazette Extraordinary No. 1465/ 19 dated 5 October 2006 as last amended by the order published in the Gazette Extraordinary No. 1530/ 13 of 1 January 2008.
