CPC to build Mattala Airport refuelling equipment

The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) has been given the go ahead to build refuelling equipment for the Mattala Airport.

Media Minister Keheliya Rambukwella told the Cabinet briefing yesterday that the CPC has been given approval to commence the initial design for the proposed fuel hydrant system for the Mattala Airport.

“The Cabinet paper was presented by Petroleum Industries Minister Susil Premajayantha and the facility will be constructed at the expense of the CPC. The company that has been engaged in the airport construction will be assigned the task of designing the fuel hydrant system at a negotiated price.”

The Cabinet paper notes that in order to oversee the construction of the fuel hydrant system and carry out operations and maintenance CPC needs to recruit qualified personnel. The proposed cadre required to oversee the construction works during the implementation time of the project and to subsequently carryout operations and maintenance of the fuelling facility of Mattala International Airport shall be selected from existing staff of CPC can be obtained by outsourcing.

However, manpower requirement of permanent nature, if not available with CPC, have to be met with new recruitment with the concurrence of management services department of Ministry of Finance.

The construction will be done at the CPC.
