The Institute of Certified Management of Sri Lanka (CMA) in partnership with Ram Ratings (Lanka) Ltd. will have its first Business Forum for 2011 on a current and thought provoking topic “ Asia Outlook: Strong Growth should counter Challenges in 2011” at the Hilton Colombo on 29 March 2011.

The speaker, Surinder Kathpalia is managing director of Standard & Poor’s office in Singapore.

Surinder will speak on how the Asia-Pacific’s economies are set for another positive year in 2011, with credit conditions likely to remain generally supportive. He will discuss about how policy makers face a number of stiff challenges to ensure the region’s economic growth, markets, and credit dynamics continue to prosper, even as the economic picture for Japan following the recent earthquake remains less clear. Controlling inflationary pressure is a major challenge for policy makers in many economies, as labour shortages, capacity constraints, along with rising commodity and food prices push inflation ahead of many Central Bank comfort ranges. Central Banks are likely to continue to raise interest rates to help contain inflation, but policy makers also face challenges associated with the region’s capital inflows, which have the potential to fuel asset bubbles.

Surinder is a member of the Advisory Board of the Corporate Governance and Financial Reporting Centre in Singapore.  He is also a member of the Executive Committee of the Investment Management Association of Singapore.  For the past 10 years, Standard & Poor’s has been selected as the “Most Influential Rating Agency in Asia”.

RAM Ratings is a domestic credit rating agency registered under the Securities & Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka (SEC) Act, No. 36 of 1987 sub-section 19A. RAM Ratings is also recognised by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka and the Insurance Board of Sri Lanka to carryout mandatory credit ratings.

RAM Ratings is a wholly owned subsidiary of RAM Holdings — an affiliate of Standard & Poor’s — which also holds RAM Rating Services Berhad (“RAM RS”) and RAM Consultancy Services Sdn. Berhad.
